Sorry I am late adding the next set of questions. Seems as though I forget these things. I hope the original thoughts will be provoked by the next questions and i will add some additional thoughts as I close for the week. Next week will be posted with new scriptures and new ideas about stewardship and it's importance in our spiritual walk with God. WaynO

1) What are your personal convictions about the giving of money for God's work?
b) What life experiences were especially infulential in helping you arrive at these opinions?

2) Has something in the discussion thus far or in the material offered grabbed your attention as an improtant insight to consider in your own spiritual growth journey????

I just wanted to add that as this list of questions is addressed at the face studies some thoughts have srufaced. to begin with the question of the church being a stewardship vs. fundraising church. we have just finished a dinner and there was a set price, is that stewardship or fundraising??? we have fairly traded coffee etc and have a price tag on that, is it fundraising or stewardship????
As to the question of personal thinking I wonder how we jsutify what we do.
the reason for that thought is within the greater info with the study (not all posted here or shared at the rest) is "whatever I say, whatever I do, God here is what I think of you." This as an offering prayer?????
thank you for your support and comments, let's keep this blog up and share more of our convictions, quesitons, and just general thinking on our faith journeys together as we move along with God. WaynO

1) I believe that giving of money, time, and talents for God's work is between you and God. The Bible God's word tells us about giving and how we should give. I believe also that our giving changes as our spiritual journey changes, as we grow closer in relationship to God/Christ, so does our giving.I believe everything I have is God's, and I am ashamed to say I haven't always been a good steward of what God has given to me to take care of.
b)At one time I was very good about tithing and giving of my time and talents and life and finances were very good. And I got lost somewhere along the way and some things changed and so did, my tithing etc. and my finances changed for the worse and some life trials.
2)In Wayne's comment, his statement on the offering prayer, whatever I say, whatever I do,God, here is, what I think of you. That is definitely some food for thought. If we look at how we talk and what we talk about and what we offer God, it may open our eyes to where we are at spiritually and what we need to improve upon and what we need to talk to God about. I know when I have asked God about showing me those things within myself I need to change he has shown me and the change has not always been easy, because even though I want to change sometimes "the flesh" doesn't want to especially if it is a habit/or something that has been around for a very long time, like a(wrong idea).and sometimes I do make that change for awhile only to fall back into the old. Matthew 26:41 "Keep watching and praying, that you might not enter into temptation, the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
In the weakness of our flesh, we probably will not be giving our best to God, because we are not thinking in terms of what we are doing as what we are offering to God,and what it says we think of him. I think God is awesome but, does what I do show that? Not always.

Wayne asks the question whether the dinner and selling coffee is stewardship or fundraising. I looked up a definition for both terms.
Stewardship:Is the noun for steward, a person appointed by an organization or group to supervise the affairs of that group at certain functions;a person or persons morally responsible for the careful use of money, time, talents, or resources, with respect to the principles of a community(church).
Fundraising: the act or occupation of soliciting money for charitable organizations.
In light of these definitions, I would have to say that the dinner and selling coffee are acts of fundraising and the care of the monies raised is stewardship. So, with this I will have to think about what I had thought about stewardship and fundraising, and stated in last weeks posting.

I did go back and look at what I said about stewardship and fundraising. I wasn't really off on what I said. I just have a better understanding of stewardship and fundraising, that I did last week.

I had an interesting discussion with a member about the stewardship/fundraising issue. if we were to simply look at everything the church does and view it from that perspective I wonder what we would see.
What I have discovered is I protect my interests investments as the correct way but in retrospect I am not so sure.
First for me to go is the coffee I love so dearly. What if the price tags all came off and we educated the congregation about what buying this coffee does. then invite everyone to take coffee as need be but the money that is left will be to sustain the priciples of fair trade??????
What do you think???? WaynO

You do raise an interesting question. I think some would be surprised at the outcome. I believe that if it came to that you may end up with more money. Because then you are operating on faith and I think sometimes we don't put our trust in our faith that God really does work. I also believe it goes back to having head knowledge of God, but not having the heart knowledge. Look at Matthew 25:14-28 the parable of the talents Jesus ends this parable with these words vs 29 "For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away." It has taken me years to understand this vs. But understanding has come.
